Signals 004 and 005 — decrypted

Below, and above.

Two of the three landed. The ground under a place you love, and the sky over the minute you were born. Both cut into wood, both drawn by you. The third is still on the bench. I can hear it from here.

Incoming — one still on the bench

Ahead.

Two came off the bench this week. The third is the one I have been quiet about. I am good at quiet. I have had the practice.

    • Plate 01 — the color range

Nine colors. The same burn reads differently on every one.

Twelve engraved leather patches showing the full range of hide colors available for a reprint

Engraved areas burn down to the core — black on most, gold or silver on three — so a light color gives you high contrast and a dark one gives you something quieter. Same file, nine different results.

File 03 — how it works

Send a file or a sketch. You see a proof before anything ships.

    01

Pick the color and the size

Nine colors, 2 inch or 3 inch, and no minimum. Iron-on backing on every one.

    02

Send artwork, or let me draw it

$50 for the design if your file is print-ready, $100 if I draw it — charged once per design, however many patches you order.

    03

Approve a proof, then I burn it

Nothing goes on the laser until you have seen a proof and said yes.

    04

Come back for more, no design fee

The file stays on record. Reorders are patch cost only, in any size or color, for as long as you want them. A spelling or wording fix is $20; anything more is a new design.

Ordering more than one design? Every item in your cart carries its own artwork, so three new designs and two reorders is five items — engraved and shipped together.

    File 02 — materials

PU leather is what is on the shelf. It is not the limit.

    PU leather

    Patches, tags, panels

Two-tone leatherette with hook and loop on the back or an iron-on backing, cut to the outline of the artwork rather than a circle. Nine colors on the shelf, and one of them glows in the dark.

    Wood

    Signs, plaques, boxes

A deep burn on a light grain. Good for coasters, gifts, shop signage and anything that wants to look made.

    Metal

    Coated stock, tumblers, coins

Coated and anodized metal marks clean and permanent. Engraved coins and plates included.

    Acrylic

    Prototyping and display

Cut to shape, engraved front or back, layered or edge-lit. Designers and product people: send a flat file, get a physical part back to hold.

If you are holding something and wondering whether it will take a burn, ask. The answer is usually yes, and when it is not I will tell you straight. Larger runs are worth a conversation too.
